It feels a bit strange to no longer be flying the “Gallery of Homes” flag over my own company, but it is also a strategic move to join forces with RE/MAX Lakes Area Realty. It’s time to stretch my legs and take advantage of a world of international technological advances and assets – and still remain the best real estate man I can be for all of my past, present, and future clients and friends. How did all this happen?
It is fun for me to reflect on how I bumped into real estate on my way to the University of Minnesota on an icy winter morning a long time ago (1962) when I literally ran into my future broker, and later partner, Jerry Smedberg’s car. With his mentoring and encouragement, I got my start in real estate. And here it is, forty five years later! During those years, I learned MUCH about real estate, the boards, and systems - about running companies, profits and losses - and listing and selling. However, my real story is about people - all kinds of people I have crossed paths with along the way.
I also learned a long time ago, the satisfaction that comes with hard work and effort. I remember someone telling me once that real estate is one occupation where you get paid only what you are worth. And I agree with that. There is no sitting back and waiting for the rewards to come by and by. It’s about a ratio of equal amount of work to the equal amount of reward. And that reward isn’t necessarily in dollars, but in the friendships that come along the way.
During those years of hard work, there were also MANY rewards. One of the greatest of them is the blessing of a fine reputation we worked hard to earn. It is my personal intent to continue that good name by holding myself to a high standard of professionalism. I continue to work with a spirit of excellence. I hold high my personal mission statement of working with honesty, experience and results. And I remember that all our work is really unto the Lord.
My partner, Dan Pflugshaupt crossed paths with me a few years ago, when he, as a young man wanted to get a start in real estate. I am pleased to say that he is a rare, ambitious, young man who is willing to go the extra mile in order to accomplish his goals. I am pleased that I have the opportunity to share my love of real estate with a partner who shares my beliefs.
My wife, Pam reminds me that we need to celebrate often. And we do. We celebrate little things and big things. How about a glass of Champagne on a snow bank watching the sunset? Why not? Or out enjoying a summer afternoon on Woman Lake? Why not? She is not fussy! She is my number one supporter!
There is one other lady in my life. It is my Pink Lady. I have been working on her for about 20 years now. My Pink Lady is my 57 Olds 88 Convertible. Yes she is pink, and is totally stock. I have come to know the auto junk yards in all the states around Minnesota. She has become (in my mind) a beauty! I love trying to make her purr and showing her off! She has been the greatest stress reliever during hard real estate times. I can thankfully say that this project will never be totally complete! And just to add a bit of “spice”, I have recently added “The Chief”, a 1950 Pontiac Convertible, which is now “resting” comfortably in the pole building awaiting some attention.
With these little reflections, I also reflect on the designations I have achieved in the real estate industry: GRI (Graduate of the REALTORS® Institute), IFA (Independent Fee Appraiser), CRB (Certified Real Estate Broker), and now with pride, I feel accomplished to add the REALTOR® EMERITUS designation to my title.
Which brings me to today. I am very pleased to be listing and selling real estate in northern Minnesota, from Brainerd to Walker! Pam and I love being a part of the community, and living on beautiful Woman Lake. Our office in Longville (the best location at the T- just look for the red roof), allows me to give premium service to our buyers and sellers! I would love to reconnect with clients and friends from the Twin Cities or from northern Minnesota from my real estate practice over the last 45 years! Or even if I don't know you yet, I welcome you stop in for a visit (coffee on me) or contact me anytime!
