DNR announces public input for Leech Lake management plan

Everyone interested in the Leech Lake fishery now can provide input to Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) staff on the department’s proposed five-year fish population objectives and fisheries management actions.

The last turtle race of the 2009 season was a whopper. First, it was the largest, last day crowd in recent years with 320 racers competing for top honors. It was one of those crazy, wonderful turtle races. The threat of rain to the nearly 1500 estimated racing enthusiasts was always present but no one but the announcers seemed to notice or care. The weather in the middle of July is, historically, northern Minnesota's most perfect time of the year. But for 2009, it was uncharacteristically very, very cold. For the first turtle race of the season, the weather could not have been nicer, considering the way this spring's weather has gone. The sun was out and the air a bit cool. However, none of the racers seemed to mind the cool weather.
